I understand your reluctance to replace him, but you have to ask yourself if puncuation and the curtousy to return phone calls is more important than your mares hoof health. He has had a year and at least 8-10 trims on her feet, to correct her angles yet her feet look like somebody who can't afford a farrier, has been rasping away willy nilly.
Thank you Beeks, and you're right. I'm going to start calling around after lunch today *sigh*

I e-mailed a farrier today who specializes in Walkers and QHs and included all photos of Hope's feet in the e-mail, as well as my phone number. Hopefully I'll hear back from him soon!

Ugh! I called and left messages for three farriers two days ago and none of them have returned my calls. The one who specializes in TWHs has had two messages left for him and he still hasn't called me. Why is it so hard to find a good farrier? Most of them around here specialize in anything but gaited horses. I find ONE who does and can't get him to return my calls. This is extremely frustrating.

Perhaps he's just busy and hasn't had the time[or in the case of a fat old farrier such as myself, the energy] to return your call. Give it a bit more time and continue to explore your options.

You're right Rick I'm just ready to get my mare's hooves on the right track. I'll be patient and wait a few more days before I bug him again lol! Thanks

Gives me another reason to love my trimmer. He leaves a message with his answering service daily as to dates he'll be in what area and you setup appointments accordingly.

What a blessing! I've had problems finding a reliable farrier since 2002 when I got back into horses. I don't know why they're so hard to find around here. I don't know what I have to do

Well, if they were just sittin by the phone waiting for a customer to call, then they probably are not very good...LOL.

Hopefully, slow to return phone calls means, worth waiting for.
