| Senior Member | Considering Breeding to This Stallion
I was hoping to get a critique of this stallion that I am thinking about breeding to. I am definitely not a conformation expert, so I need to know if you all can see any big, obvious problems with this guy. His name is Vallado. He is an 8-year-old 16.1 hand Dutch Warmblood. Confo Shot: ![]() Sorry these other ones are so small, I had some issues getting them off the website: ![]() ![]() ![]() I used to work at the barn that owns him, so I'm pretty familiar with his temperment (which is so sweet!) and jumping ability (which is pretty phenomenal, raw talent-wise). So would you all breed to him? What do you think of his conformation? If not, why? Thanks! Last edited by Dicey; 01-19-2008 at 08:48 PM. |

My first thought when I saw him was that I LOVE him and he's gorgeous... But something is bothering me. I can't pinpoint exactly what it is, but I'm thinking its either in the hip/hind legs or the neck/throatlatch connection. Again, I can't put a finger on it, so I'm hoping that someone else will see "it" and make more sense than I am He is a stunning boy though. As for whether or not I would breed your mare to him, I'd need to see pictures of her. It's nearly impossible to answer a question like that based on a brief and general description.

I'll amend that to: Would you breed to him in general?

Again, I can't answer that with the present information I just don't have enough info on the mare, and there are a ton of really SPECTACULAR, breeding-quality studs out there, but when crossed with the wrong mare, they aren't any better than the backyard "studs" (aka should-have-been geldings) that we hear oh so much about

Ah, I see your point. Hmmmm. Well, I would be breeding to try to get a sound, athletic, upper-level three-day event prospect. I wish I had pictures of the mare to show you guys, but I don't have any saved and she's off having a baby at a different barn this year. Anyway, I guess I'm just looking for a general critique of the stallion. |

I like him, the confo shot is hard do judge, but I love his form over the jumps, and he looks to be a good mover too...Cathy

My first thought when I saw the picture was that this was a youngster - a 2 or 3 year old - as he simply isnt as "stallion like" and developed as an 8 year old WB stallion (in particular!) should be. Then I saw that he is a Dutch stallion and the Dutch's tend to be finer overall anyhow ... While that wall is very attractive, I honestly wish that farm would stand their stallions up differently and in a different area ... its tough to critique and assess a stallion with a bush growing out of his neck and flowers merging into their legs ... I quite like him. He appears to be a fluid mover and I love his form over fences, both under saddle and loose jumping. He is well balanced conformation wise and depending on the build and strength's and weaknesses of your mare, he might well be a great choice for her Good luck in your decision! |

I understand what the others are talking about, that one thing that's off. I think it's his neck. However, I really think that overall, he's beautiful. The mare would make a difference as to whether I'd breed, but I sure like him. |
