Post Conformation Photos - Please Critique

I'm not sure if anybody wants to do this but I thought it might be fun for us to post conformation pics of our horses and allow everybody to critique them. It would be like Practical Horseman's "Conformation Clinic."

Well, I'm posting 2 pics here. They are of Abigail, my 9 year old pure Thoroughbred mare. One pic is for conformation and the other is her in action. The conformation picture kind of stinks but its the best one I have. lol. Both these pics were taken this summer.

I will start off by saying that Abby's neck is too short in relation to her body length and she's too long in the pastern for my liking.

I think that in the conformation photo you have of Abby she looks a bit short in the back but when shes moving she is a real stunner! I don't think that there's ne thing wrong with her at all. pony

I dont have a lot of experience with conformation so if anyone disagrees with me and wants to put me right i'd be grateful cause halter conformation is the one thing i have never been able to really get to grips with - anyway here goes.

hmm i see most of her faults in her front end. Her neck is set on a little strange (cant quite tell exactly what doesnt look right from the pic) she is a little slab shouldered for my liking (Although this isnt jumping out at you as a major fault) and she does look a little over at the knee - but that could be the way she is standing - or the angle of the pic.
I see a good deep barrel with plenty of heart and lung room a good head and a nicely balanced horse. The backend is generally good if a little lacking in power.

Her trapazoid is slightly off. Her angle in her shoulder compared to her hip, the hip angle is not as sharp as the shoulder, but she could pass.

Neck yes, little too short, makes her head look big. But in the moving pic, it doesn't look short...maybe muscle it up a bit more, and it will look better. Looks more thin than short after a second look.

And I see where you are talking about on the pasturns. The overall angle is a bit sharp, but overall she is great!

okay heres my contribution - this is my 10yr old connemara Dreamsweet Jessica.

i think in this pic her shoulder looks a little upright and her whithers are not very well defined because her neck is set a little high.

anyone else got any thoughts?

Gorgeous mare Lou!!!

I agree about the withers. Her neck is a bit high and the withers look barely there. It looks as though it might be hard to place a saddle correctly.

Other than that I think her hindquarter is lacking depth and length when compared to the shoulder - but not bad!

Overall she looks like a wonderful little mare that you can do pretty much anything with.

Oh yeah - I love the definition in her throatlatch. It ties on perfectly to a beautiful head.

thaqnks Jumpers blushing I use her for showjumping mainly,

this next one is Caprice my younger sister's four year old riding pony. We eventually want to use her for working hunters though she is only just starting to jump at the minute. (pic is all digitally altered which is why the background looks funny)

again i feel whither definition is not great and pasterns are possibly a bit short?

Another BEAUTIFUL horse!!

The horse is camped out in this pic so the hocks look straighter than thy probably are. If the hindquarter were more underneath the body the hock angle would look more correct.

I think the pasterns are okay. I don't think they're too short.

I don't see much wrong myself!
