Question Conditioning Weanlings Coat/Looks for Halter Class - TIPS?

I am looking for other people ideas and opinions towards getting my weanlings coat exceptional looking for spring shows (halter & lungeline). Any tips?
Alicia

He is currently wearing a blanket & slinky since I bought him in December and he still has his baby fuzz. I hope to start showing him in March.

A healthy coat comes from the inside, get the feed right and the coat will be lovely, we feed BOSS or sunflower oil as our feed doesn't have any dressing to it.

Lots of grooming, and as paula said correct feeding. Generally by the time show season comes around, our babies are usually close to fuzz free.

I've had a lot of success with "Healthy Hair Care" and good grooming habits. Brushing and currying encourages the coat to produce oils that make the coat shine. I also spritz a healthy dose of HHC on Stevey everytime I groom and his coat SHINES! See??

For a nice shiney coat what we use in our horses feed is a cap full of corn oil. Also what i do is before i put a blanket on my horse i spray a coat shiner on her and then put her blanket on it helps take away static that could leave your horses hair broken from and rubbing. Also grooming, lost and lots of grooming

I was just about to mention the corn oil...a very inexpensive thing that works very well!! Also, I wouldn't bath him. Just do a lot of brushing and I suggest using a product called healthy hair, and at the show I suggest using Pepi or Show Sheen...

To get the healthy glow, they have to be healthy. As stated, proper feeding is the key.

However, to get rid of the fuzzies... Lights is a MUST.

In a 12x12 stall, a 200 watt bulb will do the trick. You might want to add another if the stall is too much more than 12x12.

Use a reflective lamp that has a clamp attached. Hang the light in the middle of the stall (or is using more than one, even them out). Get a timer that plugs into an outlet. Set the timer to be on 16 hrs per day. Plug the lamp into the timer.

We set our timers to come on at 6 am and off at 10pm. Works very well.

Thanks for the tips, keep them coming. I am going to use several of them to get my colt ready. He is a very healthy colt, I just want his coat in tip top condition. Thanks again,
Alicia

We feed Shine-N-Win to our horses all year round. It is a supplement and helps keep the fuzzies under control, enhances shedding and gives the coat a really natural shine. Our horses do not get a winter coat because we have been feeding this supplement for 3 years now and keep our horses blanketed all year round (they have 7 blankets each and whichever blanket we use is for a certain temperature). Yes our guys are spoiled. My hubby hooked up a heater for the barn so that it is warm when we feed and clean stalls, then we turn the heat off and the horses are comfy cozy at night when they sleep. Here is a picture of our show horse, Wimpys Black Jack. We don't use any sprays or conditioners on him at all. Since he is black, we do feed black oil sunflower seeds also since we show all year round. This is what his coat looks like all the time.
