combination bits

I went and looked at another horse yesturday. They rode her in a hackamore but she wasn ot very responsive and they said they would try her in a combination bit. Any recomendations of a decent one that is not expensive. Should I ask them to try her in a different type of bit. They only had her a week so they have not ridden her very much. Any suggestions would be helpful. She has great ground manners just constently fought the hackamore. I am going back today and try her with the combo. bit and see how she does.

What "combo" bit? The issue likely isn't a different/no bit, it's either a training issue or a teeth issue. However, the first thing I'd try, after making sure her teeth are fine, would be a simple plain French Link, full cheek, D, or eggbutt.

after riding her today in the combo bit I realized it was the hackamore causeing the problem. SHe was very responsive and did what I asked her to do. We are going to try her in different bits untill we find the one that works the best before I buy anything. So if you have a bit that you feel would be good for a horse that has a soft mouth please let me know.

I love the French Links... also, Rubber Snaffle's, and Happy Mouth's are very soft bits.

just find any bit that is comfortable for the both of you. a french link may work and may not, some people dont like trail riding in snaffles because you wont have as much control if your horse were to spoke or take off, not saying that you have that problem. i like trail riding in a jim warner hackamore, its more free than any bit but its not just a plain hackamore it moves and turns, and i find that horses that didnt like a plain hackamore liked this one, i use it on my pleasure horses that i do some contesting with.
