When I ride, if it looks nasty, I will brush it out, just to make it look nice...unless I am trying to grow it out. If I am growing it, it never gets touched except combed while it is soaking wet and COVERED in conditioner, and even then I am extremely careful.

I use a no tangles spray, then run my fingers through it.

I really dont understand people using baby oil. It attracts a lot of dirt and you end up with a disgusting mess of a tail if you use it too often.

I comb out Ollie's tail every now and then to get the rats out and what not but not too much since it rips so many hairs out. Other wise I use a soft brush on it.

I use a mane and tail conditioning spray only on the tail and then hold the tail and comb from the bottom up holding onto it all the time. I also wash it from time to time. Lots of people I know do not do much with tails, only wash them .Brushing and combing can pull the hairs out so care needs to be taken in order to retain a nice thick tail

neither. Hand comb, or brush softly in small bunches to lessen the breakage of hair

reply..horse tail

I pretty much leave my horse's tail alone, use my fingers. I do braid my gelding tail and use a sleezy tail bag for his tail. He has a white and black tail and can get dirty, I do condition his tail. Hope this helps....

I've always used a stiff body brush, in sections, starting at the ends, and working my way up... just a quick touch up sort of thing.

I have seen the new ShowSheen detangler, but I haven't been able to try it - does anyone know if it's good, or just a dirt magnet??
