Colour Genetics,please help???

OK I think I have a chocolate chestnut colt. I am thinking of gelding him but if he is this rare colouring I will keep him a stud. Does anyone have a pic or info on what to look for in this rare colouring ? He has light brown almost greyish brown eyes and looks brown but is turning blacker with the shedding of his winter coat.

His eyes are not a dark bewon they are kind of light but greyish brown.......

I will take another pic tomorrow. His mom is palomino and his dad is black... so ... I think he is a smoky black.

I think he's liver chestnut. I knew (well, know) this stud who is liver chestnut, but he's so dark that he looks black unless you take him out into the sun or something. Your colt is adorable by the way.

Personally though, I'd geld him. Unless he's a very good version of his breed. Sorry, I'm just against breeding for color. But if he's got the temperment, the conformation, and the color - that's even better!

I'd say liver chestnut too. There's a Shetland Pony here who's such a really dark chestnut that he looks black in the winter. In the summer he's a rich chocolate brown.
