No, I'm saying that this looks more "potentially" brown dun than grullo, but that the foal coat is closer to that foals of Mary's that shed out to dark grullo. Their "foal coats" are closer in color than a "slate or blue" typically grullo. (and that is not "true color" names just pictorial color names, LOL.)

Also, I'm not saying it wont go gray as *Most* out of grays do. I want closer pictures before deciding.

ETA: I am saying that I think his "base color" is probably brown rather than black.

Huh? These are new born and month old photos of some of mine... no chance for gray. They are very black... and are indeed grullo not black.

Here is her full brother at birth. Love his white markings!~

Grullo filly at a couple of weeks old...

A grullo filly that could go gray! She tested aa... unfortunately we had to shoot her at a couple months old due to a freak accident where her back leg broke completely in half. I did not have her as a new born.

TO the OP. Do you have newborn photos of the filly? I would have her tested... My bet is that she is brown dun going gray.

The breeders did send her dna to AQHA who came back Grulla but couldn't say for sure if she would turn grey.

I posted a face shot and a pic of her Seal Brown sire a few posts ago.

How is that when they are just normal horses I happen to own? LOL It seems pretty usual and consistent when it has happened with so many of them... Funny thing is the lightest one is the one the might go gray... LOL

So did they just test for agouti or what? DNA has nothing to do with color! LOL

What the breeders told me, was that they sent her dna to AQHA to be tested and her papers came back as Grulla but they didn't put her picture on the papers as they weren't sure if she would turn grey or not. I have no idea about this stuff that's why I posted. I really don't want to buy another grey mare, but if the majority think she wiwon't turn, then I might.

The only way to know is wait for her to turn about four years old. They did not color test her so if you want to be sure that you have a grullo instead of a brown dun please have her tested for the agouti gene.

What is the registered name of her dam?
