Never seen a buckskin with a different head color like that. Pretty much all horses change shades during the year. It's just more noticeable on some and generally you don't pay attention unless you have pics of them from different seasons.

almost all horses go different colours between their summer and winter coats. Its not just a buckskin thing. A new clip will look a funny grey colour on most horses.

Not sure who told you that, but it's baloney Protein has nothing to do with color, and high protein diets are a waste of money - what the horse doesn't need is peed out.

Some horses just go through drastic changes in shades depending on the season. A palomino near us has the richest, deepest golden Summer coat, but a very pale blond winter coat.

Being out until noon all summer can be enough to bleach hairs.

It's a seasonal thing. Duns, roans, and a few other colors do that.

As for the clipping, she'll probably look grulla. I used to shave my dun every winter and she always appeared grulla. We cut pretty short though, so if you don't, she'll look more like a sooty buckskin maybe.

Absolutely gorgeous.

If it makes you feel better, I have a cremello that will be really WHITE in the winter months, then goes creme and dapples throughout spring and summer. They just change. FF is stunning no matter what color she is or will be. I LOVE her markings, and she will probably stop traffic no matter where she goes!

From her photos she does look like she's graying out, which is a very interesting effect...NOT saying you're trying to pull ANY wool over ANY one's eyes, but I can see how someone can think she appears be be graying out when I see these photos

Palamino can most definatley fad out and chage color from season to season... shaved down in her winter coat, she'll likely be fairly faded looking... In prime summer coat she'll probably be her darkest.

one of my horses is a dark golden color in the summer but getting closer to winter gets a very pale gold color. its natural for horses coats to change color. same with blonde hair with the sun. it changes

.
She would have to have a gray parent to gray out. Don't know if mommy was gray or not. I can't remember, but I don't think so.
