That also means that Kandee's foals will be FAR more likely to be tobiano if they are red based than if they are black based. Of course if you breed her to a homozygous black... all foals will be black based. However, 50% of the time the foal will get her 'e' and will be tobiano to she is a straight 50-50 when bred to a HZ black.

Another thing I wanted to add was that one reason people might think tobianos produce a higher percentage than overos is that overos can NOT be homozygous and thus are always 50%, but tobis can be **** and thus 100%.

I'm rambling again... somebody stop me. :-) I actually feel good tonight.

There's also the fact that tobiano is expressed in (almost ) all cases in which it is present. Overo can be so minimal that the horse doesn't appear "colored." So while the overo parent might have passed on the gene, the resulting foal could very likely look solid.

Just adding to your ramble ACC

Jess, talk of extention genes aside, if you wanted to really simplify it, you would have a baby with 75% chance of being EITHER dilute or tobiano and 25% change of the foal being both If Kandee is Aa and the stallion (I'm going to assume when you said homozygous black you meant the stallion is EE aa, because don't take offense but people who aren't too knowledgable about color genetics assume that "homozygous black" means the horse is actually black Got to cover my butt for the experts! ) is aa, you have a 50% chance of the horse not possessing Agouti. If that foal received the dilute gene, you might end up with a foal that just plain looks black

Kandee is gorgeous!! Couldn't miss with a dad like that, though, hey? I love her color and markings too!

Riverdance is a great stud. I bred my QH mare to him twice. I went to see him, he has a gentlemans temperament even during the middle of breeding season. His owner had no problem with me walking right up to him and petting him and such. He never once tried to put his mouth on me. He is also HUGE...even though he's not really worked much...just a lot of natural muscling. The first time I bred was a LCFG...I got a palomino solid filly, bred back to fulfill my contract and got another solid filly....just my luck. I sold both fillies, broke the first one myself...super nice, easy going temperaments on his baby (my mare is laid back too).

That's great to hear! I had someone tell me he wasn't a nice stud, but he sure has a lot of babies on the ground And from what I've seen, they're nice.

I might breed Porscha to him if I can get her papers.

I know quite a few people that have problems with his build... but to each his own. Some people are a tad too picky IMO.

I personally am one who doesnt like the build, but I dont like QH build in general. Too stocky and not enough height to go with the stockiness (Is that word)

That being said I think he is a very nice stud, just not my thing personally.
