There are chestnut purebred Friesians

However, based on this picture, I'd say he was black, not chestnut

Right right....in my first post in this thread, I said if the daddy is a friesian then I am 99.99999% sure he's homozygous for black

Whoops... I think I clicked the "Ignore" button on Peggy. Oh well!

Guys, are you saying now

1. My colt will shed out black?
or
2. My colt will be bay, but be homozygeous for black?

Gosh darn! I was hoping he would somehow magically shed out black... oh well. I might have to buy his sister now, too! (shhhh, Peggy, don't tell Dan).

Your colt is bay, no way out of that. He may very well be homozygous for black though. His sire was likely homozygous for black, and his dam is at least heterozygous for black. If that is the case, then you have a 50/50 chance of being homozygous black.

OK somebody correct me if I am wrong but IF sire was homozygous for black and mom is heterozygous for balck wouldnt' that make his cahnces of being homozygouse 75% ?? because if not then we would have 25% non black base (which is ocvious he isn't) then 50% homozygous black and 25% hetero for black...or am I confused again??

If dad is EE, and mom is Ee, then dad will pass on E. Mom has a 50/50 chance of passing on E. So the foal ends up EE or Ee. Both are black-based, but only EE is homozygous black, therefore 50/50 that the foal is homozygous black.
