Color possibilities

Sire is a sorrel frame overo and dam would be a sorrel splash overo, both negative for the OLWS. Am I going to get a sorrel baby? Would bay or chestnut be a chance too?

Nope, only a red based baby (sorrel/chestnut- whatever you want to call it). Red X Red = Red.

If both are negative for OLWS, then the "frame overo" isn't a frame. You're probably looking at a Sabino instead.

As 3WD said, your only chance is red/chestnut/sorrel for color. You have a 50/50 chance of Sabino being passed on, and a 50/50 chance of Splash being passed on, making a 75% chance of at least one of those being passed on. Whether they are expressed or not is up to details that are not known yet.

I thought so but someone told me bay too but I thought it would be just sorrel or chestnut. I'm hoping for nice baby, both sire and dam are quite nice. APHA want to change the dam which I own to a red roan overo, they claim she has enough roaning hairs to be switched.

Chestnut and sorrel are genetically the same.

A few "debated" differences in the quarter horse world mentality since we do like to split those colors up.

But genetically, they are the same.

Yes to chestnut chance and no to bay. Unless by chance one of them is the ever infamous "wild bay". And with that one, I'm not sure what you would get.

More likely, you probably have a sabino ticking. Personally, for the sake of future color people, DO NOT change to a "roan" unless you know for a FACT she carries the ROAN gene.

PLEASE!!!

I'm not changing anything on her papers, I don't think it's roaning it's just ticking and very little if that. I believe the stallion is reg. as a frame overo, he's shiloh cash bar here is a little picture of him.

shiloh cash bar is a nice horse. APHA champion to boot I believe. And APHA still needs to be slapped for wanting all Sabinos to be registered as Roans.

If that stallion is registered as Frame, but has a negative LWO test, then either his is misregistered, or his test results are incorrect for whatever reason.

He certainly LOOKS like a Frame, but just because he looks like one doesn't make it so. Many people would call this a Frame:

But she's a Sabino. She's off of True Colour's Website.

Same with this one

Wow, my links won't stay in the post! I wonder if TCF has something on her site to prevent it? I wasn't even trying to copy the pictures here, just put the inks
