Thank you Haas Horse Farm! I appreciate any and all info. I can get on color genetics. I find it very fascinating and have to admit that I got hooked on it here on this forum. Unfortunately, I'm still new to all of this so I also like to refer to others that know more than me. That's the best way to learn.

Glad to have you here on HGS. I'm sure you'll have a lot of knowledge to share with us!

Nice horses! It's not uncommon at all for a brown or dark bay horse to have light colored hair in his ears. But except for sun bleaching, I have never seen it in a *just* black horse.

Well, my friend can believe he's *just" a black horse. She wouldn't have believed it a year ago. But, she's had several foals born this year who are doing the same thing - they look black, but have tan ear hairs. She's had them tested - no cream. So I guess you have it - black!

LOL JB! I know what you mean. That through me off too! Oh well, even if she is just 'black' she's a real sweetheart and I love her!

If it's just killing you that she isn't a smokey black, you could ask to have the test run again - they've been known to make a mistake. My color friend that I asked had that happen to her - she was POSITIVE one foal was a Pearl, and the first test came back as Crcr which pretty much proved it - the foal looked very Perlino. However, the next day, UCD called her and told her there was an error, the filly really was CrCr.
