Color confusion poll..what color is this mare??

Ok, I am confused!! I thought this mare was grulla (or grullo...), but the vet says she's buckskin because of her dorsal stripe. A friend says she's grey. And I...well, I don't know what to say she is!! So here's the poll, and feel free for comments too because I am confused......

She's not a buckskin - she has a dorsal stripe...maybe a dun?

She's either a Grey or a Grulla, she has a dorsal stripe, but I dont see Leg Barring. They have to have bars on their legs, or it's considered countershading.

So she's either a Grulla, or a grey w/ countershading.

Is she registered?
If so and you know the color of her parents, then I can tell you if she's a Grulla or a Grey.

No, she isn't registered. She is gaited though (love that..!). The guy I got her from said she is walker and quarter horse. (?)

Do you know what color her parents were?

a Grulla will have 1 dun parent, and 1 black parent. Giving you a "Black Dun" also known as a "Grulla"

if the horse doesnt have a Dun AND a BLACK parent. then you cant get a Grulla.

So if her parents werent black and dun, then she's a grey with countershading.

She sure is pretty. I'm thinking grulla, as she has similar body color to my filly who is a grulla, although it's tough to tell sometimes from a pic as the color looks dif in different types of light. I was confused by the big patch of white. The dorsal stripe is caused by the dun factor. Also, the ear tips are grulla from what I can tell. Does she have barring on her legs or shoulders too? Generally, the head and legs are darker than the rest of the body with gradual lightening. The body color is described as mousy brown or mousy grey. It is a hard color to find a name for. When I tell people my filly is a grulla, they always ask what color that is. You should see the looks I get when I say mousy grey to mousy brown. I finally just took to carrying a pic around with me to show people instead. Much easier than trying to explain a weird color. There are some pretty good websites to get info from. One I have bookmarked is grullaorgrullo.homestead.com/ It explains more about the breed and markings and such. I'll post a pic of my filly so you can get a better idea. Some of these are with her winter hair.

looks like Grulla to me (although time will tell if she will turn grey) the dark head is also a sign on a grullo. how old is the horse?

CT, did you mean that you can only make a grullo from a dun & a black? thats not correct you can make a grullo from a say red dun and a bay. (as long as there is black in the genes somewhere, and a dun factor from one parent) you don't need to have a black parent to make a grullo though.

Well I cant remember the sites off the top of my head, but according to them you have to have a black parent and a dun parent. If I am wrong, I do apologize.
