I knew the chestnut one was, but I don't think I've seen the pali one before. Do you know what his registered name is/was?

I'm usually alright with this stuff, but the color in his tail is confusing me.
Thanks in advance.

The white in the tail is an appy characteristic that sometimes comes on with age. Happened with my stallion some as well who is a dark bay with black mane and tail--has more white hairs in his mane than his tail, but started when he was about 3 years old. He had more white in his tail a couple years ago, but not so much now. Apps like to keep us interested with their changes!

You betcha!! My friend had a bay stallion w/blanket spots .. dam and sire both bay .. sired bay babies .. His 4 or 5 year old spring, he shedded out all of his black hairs .. legs turned red red red ..

He looked like a sorrel with blanket and spots .. **shrug**

I'm sure his new owners thought we were idiots, until he started siring baby babies from their chestnut mares .. hehehehe

I'll have to see if I can find pics.

Not sure what you are trying to say... What other type of baby babies would you have?

A black LP gened horse will look chestnut.

Many of them that I have seen. I am sure there is NEVER an ALWAYS when dealing with horses. All the tested ones I know of look chestnut. The problem with many appy owners is they could care less about color. We have already has this discussion when talking about DB's smoky black who looks chestnut... almost palomino.

see the following photos.
Photo # 1. Bay roan mare. see the white in her tail?

Photo #2 bay dun mare and you have to look really hard to find a black hair in her mane and tail.

Photo #3 My baby boy born bay with the ENTIRE tip of his tail white.

In Appaloosas if they have white on the hinney, white in the tail no matter the base color, should at least be expected to happen.
