Colic What do I do??? I don't have alot of money right now my cat just cost me $1300

Im so scared of losing my horse....Ok this is the situation.. Last night I was at work and my inlaws where I keep my horse told me this morning that my horse colict last night. Apparently she noticed him down in the field and went to check on him..he was showing sighns of tummy discomphort looking at his stomach stomping his feet swishing his tail. She was going to give him Pepto bismol but didn't have any so gave him rolaids instead and walked him. She says he's pooping and passing gas she also checked his gums she said they were pale. When i looked at him this morning he is extremly lethagic, his eye looks poor, he looks gant like he hasn't eaten all sucked up like and ribs are slightly showing. I did watch him drink a little but he refused his grain and refused his grain last night she told me as well. Hes being very sucky with people and the other horses which isn't like him. He looks dehydratred to me like he aged 10 years in one day. I don't have the money to call out a vet but I will if its absolutly necessary but I need to see if i can get a handle on this myself if possible. What should i do? I don't know how to treat colic? I've read some treads that suggest probiotics..banamine..i can see giving the probitoics but not the bute. I don't want to mask anything. I didn't take his temp I don't know if its somthing i should be doing. His face felt very warm this morning. Also he didn't eat much hay last night. Please help me...Any info about colic and treatments would be appreciated. I don't know what type of colic he could possibly have. He smelt really funny this morning as well but im unsure of what that means. Please Please Please help me im ******** out!!!!

First, get all food away from him, not even a single piece of grass, no hay, NO FOOD.

Second, call the vet. The good ones take payments.

Your horse sounds quite distressed, and might be working on an impaction that can, if left to its own devices, cause a rupture and kill your horse on the spot.

Yes, it's that urgent, especially since he already has pale gums.

It's absolutely necessary that you call a vet, now. I have years of experience, and I don't treat colics without a vet. And don't feed him any more until your vet tells you to.

CALL THE VET!

We could all tell you what to do until we are blue in the face but he needs hands on vet care right now.

Remove all feed and do not offer him anything but water until the vet gets there.

When you don't know how to properly treat an ailment, it's always best to call your vet. Although finanically it may not be easy, a vet call out with administering of Banamine or tubing him will be A LOT cheaper than Colic SX.

I would temp him and continue temping him to see if his temp changes. Have you done the 'pinch test' to see if he's showing signs of dehydtration? Have you administered electrolytes? Does he have gut sounds? Have you taken his vitals?

How many fresh fecal piles are on the ground since last night when he was showing signs of distress?

And lastly (which should be done first) pull his hay, and NO grain.

please call the vet, i went threw this on july 19 but by the time i found my house that afternoon because i live 12 miles away from his pasture he was to far gone with impaction colic and there was nothing the vet or myself could do. We walked him and worked with him for 5 hours but lost him to this horiable disease. Its like they said a really good vet would make a payment plan with you. I have never gone threw this before and i dont want to ever and it is for sure i would not wish it on any one...Good Luck to you and you horse

They are booked! I would be throwing a fit if my vet responded to me that way. It is an emergency....call them back and demand that your horse be seen immediately. Tell them he is in major distress.

Call every vet in your area until you get someone to see your horse!
