| Senior Member+ | Cold Sweat Across Top of the Back?? Yesterday when I brought Blue in I noticed that she had dried sweat across the top of her back and when I was brushing her out it looked like she was sweating powdered milk - not like the usual salt accumulation from sweating, but really fine and powdery. Well tonight when I brought her in, she was still sweating, it wasn't dry yet and it was a cold sweat. Well that was 2 and a half hours ago. Dad just got home from church and went to check on the mares and he called and asked me if I had hosed her off (!?!). I told him no and told him how and where she was sweating earlier. He said it is common for them to sweat before going into labor, but usually it is more concentrated to their neck and then he checked and her neck is sweating too, but it wasn't when I was there earlier. It has been warmer here, in the 80's - but Suri and Belle were not sweaty at all. Cat did have some sweat around her withers, but nothing like this! Blue ate all of her dinner and hay as usual, but dad said she had drank almost all of her water, which is unusual under normal circumstances but with all that sweat could just have her feeling dehydrated. She has also had two bowel movements since I left a couple hours ago. On the regular "baby" checks - her bag was as big as always, her milk murky yellow, slightly tacky, pH strips showed her still up around 8.2, but her vulva was very exaggerated and swollen to the point of sticking out past the back of her hips and starting to gape open a little at the bottom. So is the profusive sweating a common sign of being near to foaling that we have somehow missed up until now or should we be looking for another culprit? |

| Senior Member+ | Okay well muliple search attempts are only giving me sweating on the neck, behind the elbow and sometimes in the flank area....so I am getting worried that from the withers all the way across the top of her back and in the neck area is a little abnormal..... |

| Full Member | I had a mare that looked like she went swimming just befor birth, but there was no white powder. Have you checked w/your vet? Mine will patientally answer my questions and offer advice or just tell me to chill! Hope the baby comes soon. |

| Senior Member+ | No I haven't checked with the vet. I am just watching her close at this time. I just got back from the barn and she is just standing around. I offered her hay and she ate it readily. She is still sweating and is holding her tail a little up and off to the side. She was shifting her weight from side to side in the back and acting a bit uncomfortable. I am going to go back and forth and peek in on her a couple times an hour just to keep track of her progression.... |
