CODY'S FINALLY BROKE TO DRIVE!!*VIDS and PICS*

"what?!" Is your reaction...??...He cant be! broke to drive in?! Yeah Right!!
WELL, listen to my story first!

I decided a loooong time ago that I wanted to have Cody trained to drive. He is a typical pony with attitude++++- he is a real @$$ often. LMAO
We are friends, and board with a man who has owned/bred/trained Clydes for, I believe, over 40 years. He has a "magical" way of training them. He broke my pony to drive in under 2 hours. In about 1 hour and 45 mins *I*, who have NEVER driven before, was driving him and we had NO problems at all!!

I cannot and will not say how he trained him- thats his own special way. He is NOT abusive, as im sure some are thinking thats the only way if hes doing so well...LOL He gets through to them, they understand, and they do what is asked of them- because they know what is wanted of them.I would never, or never allow any abuse done to my horses in ANY way shape or form.

He came over on Friday morning with his son, whom he has trained MANY horses with and they harnessed Cody up, and hooked him to the cart.
NOW this was Codys THIRD time with a harness on, and his SECOND time ever hooked to the cart.
They took him outside, and worked with him for just over an hour. There was ONE runaway with B* (the trainer- name is withheld) as he was seeing how much he knew etc.... Cody took off. LOL... everyone was fine!
within the hour and a bit, he was walking, and trotting around and steering like a dream. He whoaed on cue and did everything asked of him.

Saturday he got the day off.
Sunday morning he came over alone, we hooked Cody up, he ground drove him for 5 mins, then hooked him to the cart, drove him for 10 mins, he was perfect, and then he put ME behind the reins... ALONE!
He told me what to do, walked with me a few feet, then said "Go ahead, Im not coming with ya no more" and he walkd back to where my friends and Mom were. I drove him around for 20 mins- walk, trot, whoa etc.... and he did wonderful.
I hooked him up and drove him by myself this morning, then again this evening. He was an angel. So I now have a seriously well behaved, well broke pony who just needs more miles to be able to be called dead broke!... though he pretty much is already!... SERIOUSLY!

We got B* over to break him, as his old friends have a Clyde wagon in the local parades, and were talking with him about it, and B* said he had a great idea for Poop Patrol for them (cleaning up if the Clydes poop in the parade- each animal entry has to worry about that themselves) and asked us- we said "sure" and he told them and they said "well good, hes signed up!" :eelk: this was a week ago.
The parades are on Saturday (The Cloverdale Rodeo) and on Monday (Victoria day- Langley day) and I can very confidently say he will be ready! PLUS... IF there are any problems B* will be right infront in the Clyde wagon, and Ill scream to him if I have to! LMAO

SO, now that I have typed your eyes off (instead of talked your ears off! ) Here are the pics! (VIDS will be uploaded shortly...)
(all the pics and vids are from Sun... I forgot the cam Fri!)

B* and I hooking him up to the cart after his ground driving rfefresher on Sun morning

B* Driving Cody first... (you can see hes been doing this with CLYDES for YEARS! LOL)

MY TURN!
Whoa

Walk

Trot

I cant wait till Sat and Mon!!! OH YEAH! and we are rolling his mane/tail and putting flowers in his mane to match the clydes!... AND were rigging feathers for him so he will be a mini clyde!

Vid #1... Cody and B*

Congratulations on having your driving pony. He looks like he has been doing it for years.

Curiosity time, what are the straps to his fetlocks for. I have never seen them so are curious as to their purpose. Maybe I should have spent more time with my mate when he was training horses for a renovated cobb & Co coach.

It was part of the training. while it did hinder his stepping out a bit, they were NOT there to keep him from going too fast or anything, they were kept as loose as possible while he moved.... theyre just still there in a few of the pics.
