IMO, the best they looked was the first trim after she removed the shoes. I could see progress being made there if she stayed on that track. However I don't see that she has. To me they look worse now than then. How long are you going between trims? I don't necessarily believe a shorter time would really change things, but it couldn't hurt. How long between the last trim and the last photos? Maybe I missed that somewhere.

Dawn I am seeing what you're seeing. I do think she may have been talking about an abscess preparing to blow out the back of the foot at the heel bulbs or central sulcus though.

I'm having a hard time keeping things in the right timeline. QHgin, it would really really help if you can label the pictures, especially the solar ones, and especially with a date

That said - here is a picture from December

And here is one from the recent trim

Now, granted, the angle of the pictures are a little different, but it seems to me that things are worse now than they were 6 months ago

Thank you for putting those two together JB. I'm getting confused on what was when and done by who too. But with those two side by side (her initial trim and her last trim correct?), there's been some definant negative progress made.

I can't see the heels in the the first trim photo, too dark. In the last trim shot it looks like the heel has migrated forward and the toe is too long. However the toe looks okay in the solar shots. Looking at heels from behind leads one to think there is an imbalance. However I trim to the sole plane and I am wary of putting too much stock in looking at the back of the heels especially on a horse I haven't seen in person. Over all I don't like the direction this is going. Besides shoeing, what would be suggested to get the heels moving in a better direction?

This isn't about shoes, not at this point. Yes, if you have the ability to do so, send her the 2 pictures I pulled up. Actually, see if you can get a better current picture to compare to that one from December.

ccd read my mind....

if this:

is this:

then how much more toe can really be taken off? I'm curious to hear feedback on this, as it might be a reason why I've never really solved my horse's underrun heels (I get really close, but haven't yet kicked it)...

on this solar shot (granted pict is on an angle) how much further can a trimmer go?

I'm not defending this trim in the photos, I agree something has gone awry in the course of trimming.... I'm curious however, as i run into the same issue m'self... not quite as drastic (yes yes, I owe everyone picts myself!!!!)
