You just have to check back, I guess. You start these guys the same as any other horse. JMO, but I wouldn't worry about any gait training yet, just work on the basics, at a walk. When you have a good 'handle on him, then start your gait work. 'Work the walk. Ask for an increase in the speed of the walk a little at a time. Some will try to trot, so make sure you stay in a walking gait, not trot. Just like an athleat, these guys need to develope the right muscales to perform properly. That takes time and practice. Don't push to fast, that can be frustraiting to him and you.

Ok for those of you that have MFT, when you first started riding what did you work on. I just started riding my 3 year old in August, the very last weekend in Aug. to be exact. And I haven't been very consistent, which is my bad. So for those of you that have young green MFT what are you working on at the very beginning? I am going to try to get back in the saddle this weekend, and my game plan is to work on turning left and right, not circle but someone from another group suggested that I work on squares and rectangles... I have not worked on his gait and I have not worked him in a canter. He's young still and I don't want to push him in anyway.

    Suggestions are appreciated!

Do you find that they are kind of a one person horse. I bought one several years ago for my hubby. She didn't behave very well for him but she seemed to adore my sister. Needless to say my sister took her home and they make the most beautiful team.

I have returned to horse ownership after 32 years and have discovered the paso fino. We have 2 mares and they are amazing on the trail. Wow are they smart...almost too smart, and they are as smooth as glass!
