I have never seen spring lines from traces, blankets etc, and I have clipped LOADS of those myself, and seen them done. Unless you clip in March or something, then you won't have any lines once the summer coat is completely through.

To the OP - congrats!! I know how you feel, I'm doing my first completely on-my-own clip on saturday - I usually keep my mum on hand in case I mess up but she's dislocated her collar bone, so I'm doing everything with the horses right now. Emmie has only been done a handful of times, and never had her back end done - and I am attempting a blanket. I'm pretty nervous!

Interesting, I've not experienced that with any horse I've clipped or seen clipped. Some of the hunt horses just get trace clips. I've seen them in the spring and summer and have seen no lines from their trace clips.

Well maybe it was just the timing at the barn I worked at. Like I said, I always body or hunter clip, and they mostly body clipped, but they had a few trace clipped and it took till July for the lines to grow out. To each their own
