Clipping for winter?

i have a chestnut anglo arab, and i would like to clip him for the winter, but i dont know which one i should do[keep in mind hes a chestnut]. ive got a heavy weight blanket for him. i would prefer not doing a full body clip since this is my first time doing more than just whiskers, ears, legs, ect. i live in michigan and the weather here in winter is sometimes below zero. also ive heard that when you dont clip there whole body that they will have weird lines in the summer where you clipped it.. is that true? oh one more question is this about the time of year i should clip him if i want it to grow out by summer?
please post pics!!

Please see my comments in e_watson's thread on the same topic.

I don't know about the "lines" remaining in summer that you mention. Perhaps others will advise.

We trace or bib clip every year, never had any lines left behind.

No lines with a trace clip that I've ever experienced on black, white and chestnut horses.
