Clinton Anderson saddle

I've been searching but haven't seen a thread regarding the Clinton Anderson aussie/western cross saddle. Anyone have this saddle? I would be intrested to know how satisified you are with it and what sort of conformation the horse has that you are using it on.

I'm searching, yet again, for saddles that better fit my horses. I have three different body types and their current saddles are no longer working. We do long (minimum of three hours) trail rides up and down hills, water crossings, unstable footing, etc. I have quality saddles now and don't want to go the "cheapie" route but am not convinced that these saddles made today are what they are claimed to be.

I really don't want to "buy into" one of these modern day clinicians, and I really don't think his saddle pad has much merit. I've had horses for almost 40 years (how did that happen? ) and the more I learn the more frustrated I become. I need life to be simple!

Anyway, before I ramble on too much longer, anyone out there with an experience you can share regarding the Clinton Anderson saddle? Thanks.

Pat

I guess silence speaks volumes on this one. Guess I won't stick my neck out and "go there".

If your have different shapes to deal with, have you looked into www.specializedsaddles.com ? These may or may not be something that interests you. There is a Yahoo chat group on them, IF your interested I can PM it to you.

A client of mine bought one because it was very light weight, I rode it a few times, its ok to ride, but I thought the quality was a bit lacking...for the same money you can buy a pretty nice custom made saddle

Thank you, Temposmom. I had checked out Specialized saddles (only lightly) because someone had one on Tacktrader. This one had only been ridden in four times, which sends a "heads up" to me, I guess. If the saddle was all it was stated to be, why were they selling it after riding in it only four times. I realize that there can be other circumstances involved.
The saddle has sold, so maybe I'm just thinking wrong.

I've been down the Ortho Flex road, and it wasn't a very pretty one. A very bad experience. That's why I don't believe in this flex tree craze that seems to be going on now.

I've read so many saddle fit articles that my head is spinning. Each seller of saddles has the best fitting saddle made and your horse is just gonna love it! And, you fit him now and because of "whatever", it doesn't fit him anymore. And, fitting a horse while standing still doesn't necessarily mean that saddle will fit him once he moves. Guess the secret is, "Don't move!"

I know my best bet is haul my critters to a saddle shop and get the best fit available. I have to make a two to three hour haul from where I live to get that done. Most of these "store brands" have synthetic fleece lined skirts. I'm from the old school and believe that real wool should be used to guard against saddle pad slip and cooling of the back. The specialized saddles use biothane for stirrup and billet straps. Don't think I agree with that either. I'm a leather person.

Oh well. Thanks for your input. Guess I'll continue on my quest. Spring is coming, so I had better make up my mind here shortly, right? "They" say don't ride bareback because that hurts the horse's back also, and besides - where would I put my necessary take along gear - tie it to my body, I guess! Fanny Pack!!

Specialized saddles can be ordered with leather, and they can come with a western rigging too. Lots of styles and options to choose from. I have found over the years that the main reason people don't keep them is the "person" is not capable of understanding how to fit the saddle. It is VERY simple, but some just can't seem to "go there" for whatever reason. I just threw this one out since you said you had differently shaped horses, and this is one way around multiple saddles. Is this saddle THE saddle for everyone...heck no, but none are. I have two horses with extremely different backs, and have been happy with the saddle. I've put a couple thousand miles on it so far.

You could try http://trailridingsaddles.com/ that would let you get a tree fit then order the saddle to it. Many riders have spoken highly of these saddles. There IS something out there for everyone and their horse, just finding it is the problem...sigh.

Good luck!

These are old posts, but here goes anyway!

I have also had lots of problems fitting my horses, and it's been a source of frustration for me for quite some time. Unfortunately, saddle fit is not a simple thing, so it requires some patience. Can any of your current saddle fit problems be corrected by different padding? I tend to purchase saddles with wider bars than my horses need, so if they change shape, it's easier to change pads than saddles.
I don't want to rehash things that you already know, so I won't go into anything. There are some tidbits that my barn owner have shared with me that have helped me tremedously, and I would be happy to share them if you would like. Let me know if you'd like me to share!

I've had a Clinton Anderson saddle for 1 1/2 years......I love it! It replaced my old work saddle that was 22 years old that i was in love with. I'm 30 years into riding/training/showing and I would buy another one of these saddles without a second thought. It's very close contact, broke in very easily, very comfortable (and it doesn't take much to hurt my seat bones), fits horses well.....has FQHB.
