My trainer, sister, mom, and I went out to look at a new horse named King to possibly buy for eventing today. He is around I would say 16.1h, dark bay with a small "star" on the right side of his eye area. He really is beautiful. He is around six or seven years old I believe and has excellent bloodlines. He was never raced, but was bought as a yearling for $300,000 Anyways...my trainer had ridden King cross-country for his (King's) first time and he had done fabulously...at only five years of age too. We saw him today and my trainer got on him first. My trainer said he remembered him being really forward before, but today he was pretty deadbeat. Not a tb "hot" in him it seemed...until u got to the canter. It wasn't fast, but he kept bucking. He only bucked my trainer like a couple of times. I got on him, and tried him myself. His trot work was fantastic and he knew leg incredibly well The owner told us she hadn't been keeping him in work due to the weather being so yucky lately. My trainer suggested she work him and let us know of his progress so we can come and check him out again in the next couple of weeks. I really like this horse. I got on him, and felt he had all the potential in the world to be great. My sister is really a timid rider though. She hasn't had much formal training because of a recently healed injury and lacks confidence. I feel that she could be an excellent rider, but she really beats herself up about it. I think that King is a great horse, but because of her confidence and current skills might be a bit more than she can handle. The thing is though is that we can't afford a dead-beat fancy oldenburg, hanoverian, whatever else. I just don't know what to do about it. Maybe we just need time to think things over, let King progress a little bit, and then have her try him. What does everyone else think?

Well he sounds really great. If the owner is an honest person(and probly she is) then he could be like that because of work. What if you took him on a trial? If you couldnt do that, then you should wait to see how he progresses if she works with him. Good luck though and I hope your sister gains some confidence....its always nice to have someone newer in the horse world

If King doesn't work out, there's always another horse out there which will make finally getting the "perfect horse" worth all the time and patience in the end...I hope!
