i am having trouble deciding!!! agh!!! which one do you guys like better? Belle words from owner: I would not say she is "in training" for English and I don't actually know what all training she had originally. I know that we've only ridden her English and she seems to be a natural - we just had to lengthen her trot a little and it seemed more comfortable for her to go English. I have 2 trainers here that both ride and compete English and Western and so they checked her out both ways. She has been ridden in our indoor (which is an open arena with stalls on each side, lots of wind and noise) and did fine. She has also been ridden in our round pens and both outdoor arenas, one which has a trail course in it. She will look at something scary a time or two and then get over it. She does not have shoes on now, I don't know if she ever has. Her feet are in good shape - they were long when she came here and my husband trimmed her. She was pretty good, might have danced a little, but she'd only been on the property for 10 minutes and she had a wound on her leg from the other property that. She stood very well during the time I was treating her leg and lets us clean her feet with no issue. I haven't taken her out on the trail alone, but we've taken her out of the barn, away from stall neighbors, to the arenas with no other horses around and not had any problems. She is not cinchy - we definitely would have noticed the day of the show since we hurridly switched the saddle back and forth 6 times. I longed her for a couple minutes before I rode her the first time - mostly because I wanted to make sure her leg wound wasn't hurting her (btw, it's almost healed and should heal with no scar). We longed her for a minute or two the day before the show when the young girl tried her out - she'd been in a stall and 30' run for more than a week without being let out and she was calm as could be. The day of the show, I just pulled her out of the stall, picked out her feet, brushed off dust and we put the saddle on and she entered the arena for the first class. She is not a hyper horse at all I have seen her load and unload in a stock trailer with a high step in height. She also stood in it for quite a while as we stood around and talked, nothing other than some changing of balance. I have a slant load i could put her in, but I'd suspect she's probably more used to "closed" trailers than the stock trailer she came here in. I wouldn't expect her to be a problem for a shipper unless she had to back up a ramp like some of the big vans have. But then again, maybe she'd go right in that too - she went right over our bridge without complaint! Belle is "light" in body, like a Thoroughbred, but not skinny. I'm feeding her 2 good sized flakes of grass/alfalfa mix morning and night and about a pound of Strategy in the morning. So I think it's an average diet for a horse that's neither an easy keeper nor a hard keeper. pictures ![]() ![]() |

| Senior Member | Brego words from owner: We've had him over a year and are selling him only because my son, 13 years old, has decided he doesn't want to ride anymore. I feel that if he doesn't want to ride on Brego, then he really isn't an equestrian. Brego is a Canadian TB and yes he probably was raced as a youngster. Then he was called to Derby, which in Canada means to eventing. Since then he has been a jumping/dressage horse. However, in Canada, the "Derby" also means a particular kind of event--faster and a little crazier than our US style 3-Day Events. Once he was brought to US, he has lived in a barn and has been owned by riders competing in events and show jumping. That's all I know about his past. He has one scar on his neck from a past injury, probably a kick or bite my vet thinks. He has not suffered any injuries since we have owned him nor has he been sick, coliced, been lame, etc. He can be ridden anywhere, but may find traffic a bit scary, but I believe an good rider could take this horse anywhere. My 13 year old, an advanced beginner, has ridden him in arenas, on trails, in wide open wheat fields, on paces, at events, at rallies, and at clinics. The horse is kept on pasture now, but was a barn horse when we bought him. He's pretty easy going and adjust well to his environment. I'm sure than in his lifetime he has reared, kicked, bucked and bit. But as horses go, he's very easy to be around and has excellent ground manners. Remember, my 13 year old son rides and cares for this 17.1 hh horse. No mother would want her child to be working around a biting, kicking, bucking, rearing 1400 pound monster. Brego isn't that kind of horse. But there may be an occasion where he could offer a tiny rear in excitement or frustration. He has given a tiny buck with Stephen twice since we've owned him, and Stephen has ridden him three times a week pretty faithfully. He had never bitten a person since we've had him, or kicked at anyone. We've never had him around other horses, so I don't really know about that. Yes he has shoes on. I think for a fairly confident beginner, or a beginner taking lessons and riding regularly, Brego could work nicely. He may not work as well as an occasional pleasure mount for a young person who rides infrequently. Brego likes his jobs and wants to be ridden. If you're familiar at all with Pony Club, then my son is a D3 rated rider, which means that by Pony club Standards, he'd be an advanced beginner. He handles jump courses at 2'9" in height, does dressage and eventing at the Pre-Novice level. It's hard to know if he'd work for your level but knowing how my son rides may help you decide. in my opinion i like the mare alot better.. they both sound great though i can see your dilemma.. both look like they love their job.. the geldings legs over a jump are sloppy.. but i can't compare it to the mare so their styles aren't really helpful.. good luck! hope to find out who you choose
