Is there a lot of feed in the pasture or is it bare?
If no feed let her get good and hungry. If lots of feed you need to stand in the middle of the pasture and someone or multiple people need to chase her until she comes near you. Iknow this is the hard bit but if she comes close and presents bum chase her away. The idea is that you are the "safe" spot in the pasture but at the same time you don't want the up yours attitude of a bum.

If you dont have enough people you can use a vehicle to keep her going but you need to monitor the panic factor with this but it saves a lot of huffin an puffin G Luck.

I feel your pain, I have an un-catchable rescue that I've only just touched for the first time in 18 months.

We caught him by putting him in a stall and throwing a loop over his head. When he didn't freak out, we walked up to him...

how long have you had her? maybe she still needs some time to settle in... and if she threw you, she probably needs ground work before getting up on her back...

my newest gelding kicked me three times in a 6mo period.. I know this doesnt seem like a lot but, it was over the winter months and I was hardly working with him... now though. (the last time he kicked me was in march) I dont think he would ever kick. though I am much more careful, and serious about his butt staying away from me.. also, he threw me a ton of times. (seemed like every time I was on him) but now that we have done a ton of ground work, the last few times he has been an angel. (if not a bit lazy)

lol dont worry you will get through it. she sounds like your gonna have fun with her though.. good luck

My horse did the same thing (minus the throwing) when I first got him. He just trotted and loped around the pasture and I stood there like an idiot with a halter trying to catch him. Eventually it just took a lot of soft talking, NOT chasing him, and making friends with him. Chasing only makes them afraid of you. You have to approach them calmly and preferably with food! As soon as your horse is stopped and quiet and you could catch her, walk up to her, pet her shoulder and tell her "good girl," and then walk away. Pretend like you don't want to catch her, her curiousity will probably get the better of her.

It just takes some time letting the horse trust you...I thought my horse was going to be permanently uncatchable from the way he acted when I first got him, but now he will willingly leave the hay bale to come greet me when I go out to get him.

I think you're going too fast...she doesn't trust you and you are a brand new person to her. Do a lot of groundwork and get her to actually want to be around you before you start hopping on her back and making her work. Then she will never want to be with you. I know the feeling of wanting to ride your horse right away, but the groundwork and the trust and leadership it instills will make riding more enjoyable for both of you when the right time comes.

I am going to agree with Fire. You need to be her friend first. She will bond sooner or later with you, but its going to take time. All i would do, is stand, or sit somewhere, and ignore her. Turn your back to her if you have to. She will start to wonder what you are doing. When she is close enough, talk to her, get her to want to come to you. Giving them food will just make it harder. They will come to Expect the food, and you do not want that. Once you have caught her, make it fun for her to be with you. Its not always about work ya know^^ Take her for a walk and let her graze, bath her, groom her, do anything but work. Once you have bonded, start slow! Start with some lunging and ground work, and work your way from there. Faith, my new horse, would run from me if i tried to catch her. I would usually chase her off, but then i realized it was not always working, so i started to talk to her, and just sit around until she got the idea. If she came up to me, and then turned and ran, i would chase her off and tell her "Get out!" She now screams for me and comes galloping to me when i call her. Its cute. But, she will bond with you, and when that happens, it becomes so much easier. Hope that helps!

On the food subject, I enticed my horse with carrots when he wasn't running away but wasn't coming up to me yet. Even after the carrots stopped he wasn't nippy or pushy. All horses are different, of course, but in my experience he didn't come to expect the food, although I do surprise him and bring him a treat now and then when I catch him.
