Can you help me real quick? polo wraps

I was just reading a thread on boots. Someone mentioned they like polo wraps, but dont help at all if not wrapped properly, and can actually hurt the horse.

How do you wrap them properly?

What are the common ways they are put on wrong that can hurt the horse?

this is kinda a bummer because ive been using them

Thanks so much!

I don't really know how to describe it...I was always taught to wrap towards the back if that makes sense. When you're wrapping it should be unrolling toward the back of the horse on the side of the leg that is closest to you. They should be tight, but not too tight. This probably isn't helping much, maybe someone else can give a better explanation

When you first start putting them on, make sure the start is either on the front of the cannon bone, or the back of the leg. (basically so it's not on the tendons, or else it will wrinkle and cause problems). Make sure the wrap stays smooth...any wrinkles will cause problems. that's basically the biggest concern. Just don't go too far below the fetlock, or too far up the knee and your set!

you just 'tuck' the polo under, and come back up. i guess i shouldnt say under the fetlock...it's just so you dont have the polo going straight across the bottom of the cannon bone. You should get a neat little upside down "v" on the front of the bottom part of the cannon bone. lol, it's hard to explain! (i just re-read that...i hope you get it!)

The rule I was taught is to always wrap the tendons INWARD. So as you roll the wrap over the tendons at the back of the leg, you should be wrapping AWAY from your body, not pulling the wrap tight towards your body. Keep the tension very steady and ensure the wrap lays very smoothly over the tendons, pull tight as you come across the front of the cannon bone, towards your body. This rule applies to all kinds of wraps, not just polos.
