Wow, thanks HHF! I did find that odd, since from my research on the champagne gene I've found 4 types of champagne (gold, amber, sable, and classic) but didn't think they could carry a color along with that champagne gene. Made my brain hurt! That does explain it. The gold champagne horses are registered as pallys, the ambers as buckskins, etc. It all makes sense now!

Keep in mind that champagne is separate gene, so champagne can exist on top of a dilute color or dun or pearl.

Yes that is true but each combination has its own look. It is very obvious if you have a combination of more than two different type of dilutions on one horse, such as cream and champagne. Which is then called gold cream, amber cream, sable cream and classic cream. I am hoping for two gold creams next year as I bred my palomino stallion to two of my gold mares. If you spend time looking at the horses in the ICHR Registry you can see what many of the champagne colors look like. A cream champagne will resemble a DD but not be and the eye color will still be amber instead of the blue seen below... unless it is caused by a paint gene. I do not have enough experience with champagne paints to tell you more but I will share what I do know. If a champagne horse does not look very very light it is not a champagne cream. This is a gold mare... with no cream gene... so imagine how much lighter this mare would have to be if she also had a cream gene! LOL ![]() For instance when a horse has more than one color pattern you can tell by the eyes... |

Horse Feathers... mail Laurie about the Champagnes. She's praying that Korbel will take over the center of her breeding program when he matures. She's actually pretty good when it comes to the genetics between Paint and Champagne. LOL... The only real difference between her breeding program and ours is the Champagne color. Take a look at Gracie on the broodmares page. That is one of the most beautiful mares you'll ever see that's Champagne. She's big, yet every bit of her says mare. Now, lets just hope our boy gives her a nice white spot so she can have a new broodmare prospect for Mr Korbel when he grows up

Oh my god yes, Gracie was my favorite out of the broodmares I can understand why Laurie would have such high expectations for Korbel, he's fantastic! Is Gracie bred by your stud Playboy?
