| Senior Member+ | Can she do it in a halter class?
I have been wondering what I can do with my girl and thought that a halter class or ffew would be nice for her- to get experience as well as get experience for me too. I realize that people train for halter classes and take them very seriously. I dont want to step on any toes here- just wondering if me and the girly could get into a few of them. I have done allot of research on halter classes on this forum and have learned ALLOT! Now, the only question I have is should I do it? Can we do it- or am I just going to be laughed at? What type of things can I do by next season to get her ready for the classes? How much does it cost to enter an amature contest? Does bloodlines count allot, or is it allot by looks? I have been told by allot of people that Indie is "put together perfect" while I dont believe she is perfect, I still think that the experience would do her and I wolrds of good. Critique away- tell me everything you are thinking. Here is her without her winter fuzzies...

Well right now shes in her awkwardish bum high stage but from how she looks now... I think she would do well in Halter. I think she has lovely confo. Very nice shoulder, nice clean legs, cute head nice neck. Once she grows into her rear end lol I think she will be one really nice looking girl. And she has an awesome rear end! So much muscles! Oh and I am assuming she is young? |

Do you know when horses start growing into their booties? Or is it different with different horses? I have been thinking for quite a while- well, since I bought her that some halter classes would be nice to get the both of us more experience in the show world. Well, after I can save up a buy a trailer that is. ![]()

She should start growing into it as a 2 year old... sometimes not till age 3 but QH's tend to grow into it at 2 or 3.

So, from what I have learned from the past threads. I need to work on walking and trotting in hand, desentizing so that she dosent get scared- or try to. Thats the reason for going in the first place. Getting her to stand in one place- nice and square. Looking nice and shiney- thats a given. Me looking good and wearing.... um, not sure, we'll get there later. For starters am I getting it? What else as far as just getting ready?

Take her! I don't know much about conformation You could also do showmanship. You could have the ugliest horse in the world and still win You will probally need a show halter with silver. Althought some people go without For halter classes she should be able to stand square, walk and trot with you. Um.. that is really all she needs to do For showmanship you need to do the same as well as turns on the haunches and back as well. You will be judged on how well you present her In halter no bloodlines don't count for squat, either they are well built or they aren't. The judge doesn't even get a chance to see your horse's pedigree As far as cost goes. To show at the level I do it costs $2 ![]() Any other questions?

Also bumping for the morning crowd. Could you point me in the right direction as far as learning more about halter classes or showmanship for shows in Michigan- besides HGS of course. Also, now that you said showmanship I will have to search the forum for old post on that too. ...And, ya know what- I think I can afford the $2!
