Other breeds can have paint coloring but they are crossed with paint. Like quarter/paint arab/paint and such. I am sure someone who is into paints can answer this more.

The Paint Horse (registered by the APHA) is limited to horses of documented and registered Paint, Quarter Horse, or Thoroughbred breeding.

Pintos (registered by the PtHA) however..... can be horses of documented and registered Paint, Quarter Horse, or Thoroughbred breeding...AND....also allows for the registration of miniature horses, ponies, and horses derived from other breed crosses, such as Arabian, Morgan, Saddlebred, and Tennessee Walking Horse, to name but a few. The PtHA does NOT accept horses with Appaloosa or Draft breeding.

Wow, is that true? You learn something new everyday, I guess! I have a double-registered (APHA/PtHA) mare, so I knew that APHA registeres ONLY Paint, QH and TB lines, but I thought Ptha registered ALL breeds. I didn't know it had exclusions as well.....Hmmmm......

Yes what Sandra said is true. They don't accept Drafts or Appies for paint registrations. Well, I know they don't here in Australia.
