I am going to a one day event in a few months. We have to go by USEA rules. They do bit checks and i want to make sure my bit is approved. for some reason i can not get the rules to show up on my older than dirt computer.I have been riding my horse in a full cheek snaffle W/ copper mouth (nickle plated shanks) and bit keepers on the top shanks. This is my first time going to a big event usally i go to the small local ones. Thanks for any help with this. |

I'll double check, but I believe the bit must be made of one solid metal--the copper mouth part is the part I'm unsure about. A full cheek snaffle should be fine.

I'm not sure if eventing dressage and "normal" dressage rules differ but according to the "normal" dressage rules that bit with keepers is fine. Good luck and have fun |

| Senior Member+ | Again not sure if eventing dressage vs. "normal" dressage is different but for "normal" dressage twisted mouthpieces of any kind are NOT allowed.

| Senior Member+ | If it's an event, even a 1-day event, that's not "normal" dressage, so the rules are a bit different. What the differences are I can't tell you

I just looked up the eventing dressage rules United States Equestrian Federation, Inc I couldn't find anything that said the bits were okay or not okay. I would assume the OP's bit would be fine but because it is illegal in "normal" dressage I would think the twisted bit is illegal, but you should email them and check. |

I'm pretty sure any sort of twist or dual-metal mouthpiece is illegal in any sort of dressage. The only difference I can think of for eventing dressage is that you are not allowed to carry a whip.

If I'm remembering right there used to be a rule that stated that bits must be made entirely of the same metal but that this rule was overturned because of the benefits of having copper in a mouthpiece. Also the Myler MB02 comfort snaffle is allowed and that has copper inlays. | ||
