can adding sweet feed change a coat color?

Probably a dumb question but about 3 weeks ago Tom began adding sweet feed to Eddies diet. He is a true black who had been seriously bleached out lol In the last 3 weeks he has gone almost completely black again.

Can adding sweet feed to a diet change a horses coat and that fast or is that a coincidence?

I think it's just "that time of year". Their coats aren't looking any thicker, but the very beginnings of the new hair for the winter coats is coming in. Regal's looking more true grey less rose grey now that the bleached hairs are shedding and new hair is coming in.

I went out to get him out of his lot the other day and it was about 95 and he was sweaty just standing in the shade. I was really puzzled and a little worried about him- then I realized that his coat had been feeling a little thicker lately and probably is making him a little warmer already.

I agree....there is generally nothing in sweet feed that would alter coat color. But, they are getting new coats in preperation for winter....my blacks there were sunbleached are now looking much darker and their black color is coming back.

OK, thanks lol I didn't think so and I had never heard such a thing but I was sitting there watching him tonight while Tom was riding and I couldn't get over how much more black it he is! Its still so hot here and sunny that I didn't think their coats would be changing already. He doesn't feel any different but richer in color and come to think of it he was sweating more the last few rides. I bet its from the thicker coat.

LOL. it took me like a day and a half to put two and two together why my horse was so sweaty. More sweat = september hair.
