the above is an older analysis of the Triple Crown feeds. some of there feeds are MUCH lower now than what is mentioned above ( And tested by Equi-analytical). i feed the LITE and it is only 9.3% NSC and 9.5 % starch +ESC. Triple Crown safe starch forage is: 9% NSC and 6.1% starch + ESC Senior is: 11.7% NSC and 13.2 % Starch +ESC Triple Crown Low Starch is : 16% starch + ESC and 13.5 % NSC to name a few off the list. *Values determined by Equi-Analytical Laboratories, Ithaca, NY, reported on as sampled or as fed basis. WSC is water soluble carbohydrates, ESC is ethanol soluble carbohydrates, NSC is nonstructural carbohydrates and NSC = Starch + WSC. Select horse feeds and forage with low Starch + ESC values for horses to prevent laminitis, tying up disease (EPSM, PSSM, RER), prevention of Developmental Orthopedic Disease (DOD), calmer behavior and reduced insulin resistance for Equine Metabolic Syndrome and Equine Cushing's Disease. Also, forages with high NSC values (fructans) are more likely to cause laminitis. All feeds have fixed-ingredient formulas so carbohydrate values remain constant copy and paste of the table didn't work so i had to put the website link up. http://www.triplecrownfeed.com/news-...ate-levels.php | |

NSCs are impossible to compare to other feeds. There is no regulated formula to come up with the numbers. You can't compare to other brands because each brand has their own equation. The numbers will also change every time it's done for the same feed. Blue Seal is also changing a few of their formulas. They are adding a new line with higher protein, fat and fiber. One will also have MSM, glucosamine and chondrotin in it.
