The calorie counting chart is part of a very well written discussion concerning laminitis and obesity. To read the entire article, which is well worth the read, go here http://homesteadvet.net/news.html and go down to the Walsh International Discussion section. Click on the middle picture which will take you to the full PDF file.

The downside to the chart is that some feed formulas have been altered and/or upgraded since it came out so it is no longer totally accurate. If you want to know the calorie count on a specific feed at any given time, the best thing to do is contact the manufacturer's nutritionist.

Yes, that chart is from the Obesity and Laminitis article. I checked with Blue Seal and Triple Crown and those numbers are current. I actually looked up the calories for Purina and Nutrena as well, and those are the most current that I could find. Also a side note, Blue Seal does not change their feed formulas, but yes, other feed formulas from other companies change depending on the prices of certain grains that they can get - ex. if corn is more expensive this year, then they tend to subsitute something else instead of the corn, etc. But this will give people an estimate of the calories, a starting point at least.

I'd bet they're the old numbers. But the good thing is that calorie info is one thing that Purina will give out!
