Calling all shampoo gurus...

Does anyone have the name of a good white shampoo that actually works to keep these two clean?

I've been using Rio Vista, just the general equine version, not colored but debating on trying something new. Why oh why is it I love my light colored babies so? At least its been a dry summer...

Thanks!!

The owner of Rio Vista was just at our Store last week and I was asking him a billion different questions about his color enhancing shampoo's. You should be using Hi-Ho Silver on your White horse and also on your paint you could use Hi-Silver and The Golden Palomino. The trick to the color enhancing shampoos is after you do the usual scrubbing you need to apply more shampoo and leave it on for 5-10 min. before rinsing it out. It works great when you do it this way. I had to do shampoo demo's for the 4-h kids last week and washed close to 25 horses with Rio Vista products and the kids just loved the results.

I'll have to give that a try, someone had mentioned another whitening shampoo to me before but with the new pinto I needed to come up with another idea. Thanks!!

The other nice thing about Rio Vista color enhancing shampoo's is that the color does wash off of your hands, not like some of the other products I have tested on our horses before.

i use dawn dishsoap, and this purple/blue stuff from sally's beauty supply. its really for people with gray hair, but i find it works just the same as bluing shampoo for horses. oh and get the conditioner, and leave it on for a few minutes, the shampoo doesnt work near as well. the combonation works very well! if your horse is really bad, do the dawn twice, and then the blue stuff for brightening. also for shows, i put some baby powder over it to make it even whiter.

I found a bottle of Clairol Shimmering Lights at a horse show that I used the other day on my guy. It worked WONDERS! He is a pretty light grey with a white mane and tail. It cut the yellow well (had to use it twice on the tail but I idnt really leave it in too long). The price tag on it says Sallys Beauty and it was like $5.00. It worked well and a lot cheaper than the equine products.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I'll just have to experiment a bit and see what works.

I'll either use Quiksilver or a capful of ALL laundry detergent and a small capful of bleach.

And no-neither of these things irritate a horse's skin, just wash it off good, like you would any shampoo.

I found that the laundry detergent and bleach work AWESOME with a loofa!! Good luck
