Calling all color gurus

I went up to see Eli at the breeders last weekend and he is finally starting the shed out some of his baby coat. Much to my supprise...what is underneath is pretty much the same color kinda brownish silver. I was expecting him to shed out a dark bay like his mom. Don't know why that was just what I was expecting. His mane and tail are black but no trace yet of black on his legs. Of course that could come later. He does have a lot of silver hairs in his tail. Don't think I have any pics that really show that. I am just currious what color you think he will be

His mother, Cher, is very dark bay.

His sire is bay, Maid Magic.

Both grand sires were chestnut. And I don't know what the grand dams were. He has a half sibling (out of the same mare) that was dark bay.
So what color do you think he will be?

Here's hoping. But I don't think it is going to be this year, lol! Maybe by next summer.

How old is he? Still looks like he has a bit more to go before the major shedding happens

Well if the Sires were chestnut then the dams HAD to be either bays or blacks to produce bays. So both the mares were either black or bay. According to Maid magic's Pedigree his granddam was a bay so I'd wager that the dam was also a bay.

As for Eli, Does he have silver or greyish points on the legs? some bays and duns have silverish colored legs before they shed out black.

I"m leaning towards a bay at this point from what I can see.

Of course, I just wasn't sure which

Yes, his legs are definately a silverish color. I am sure he will be bay just interesting that he is sheding out the exact same color underneath. I was so expecting something darker
