Red light!

Do NOT finish paying for this mare until she is registered and you SEE her papers in PERSON!

I'm having BIG problems getting papers on my mare who I was PROMISED she was registered, and I'd have the papers by the next week.

And someone else here, Berenulz [I think I butchered that] had the same problem with trying to get the papers!

^^I agree totally!! You need to beware of this situation. For that kinda of money in today's market she should have papers right now, and she is an older mare too, what was the reason she was not registered in the first place?

That is why I say call APHA and ask them about the mare... you will need to know the name of the sire and the name of the dam and her year of birth. DO NOT GIVE THEM ANOTHER DIME UNTIL YOU FIND THIS OUT....

I will call and ask for you tomorrow... since I know all the right questions and what is required. I will let you know what I find out in the morning...

I would guess that everything is in order as long as the people who have the mare now are the ones who bought her when she was sold originally and they still have the signed registration documents... She has two full siblings that are papered. Probably another case of a weanling buyer not papering the offspring.

Mare JUST A HONEY ROSE Perlino Overo TWO TONE BARLINK PT

My concern is that on the website they do not list a fee for regular registry after the age of three....

Mary, it's 3 and older that cost you $500. It's right on the registration application.

yeah that was me lol my name is a bit weird. It was a nickname I had for my old show mare. I bought a mare and colt that they promised were registered and they would give me the papers that day. they gave me the mares papers in a folder but not the colts saying the AQHA had not sent them yet and they would send them as soon as they got them. I had a signed contract so I was not worried at the time. However a month passed and I got a bit uneasy so I called them and they said there had been a mix up at the AQHA and to just wait a bit longer. I found out later (from the AQHA) that not only was the colt not registered but the owners had never filed a stallion report! Part of the reason being the mare had never been transfered to their name so I had to pay for a double transfer to me just to get her in my name. We called the AQHA and they suspended their account and we called and left many messages for them. They finally got the stallion report in late then called and told me I had to pay them to register the foal late and transfer him into my name. (He was over a year old by the time he was registered). We told them they would have to pay not only for the late fees but to transfer him to my name since they had lied about the mare and made me pay for a double transfer. We threatened to take them to court to sue for all the money back as well since the mare was not at all what they represented.

As for your case it sounds more like the person said "She can be registered but isnt would you like to get her registered?" and you said "Yes" so at that point it is your responsibility to pay. The person offered her as a grade horse but to get the papers it will be the $500 more to get her registered. Since this woman is not the breeder of this horse (right?) its not her fault the papers were never properly filed in the first place and it looks like she never cared if the mare was registered or not. I would ask you if you really care if she is registered or not. If you dont plan on breeding or showing her in breed shows then it might not be worth it.

GO to the fees list for horses on the APHA web site... that is the reason for my saying that. It says:
Quote:
Regular registry: 3-Year old year $500.00 $1,000.00
I found it on this page: http://www.apha.com/association/fees_reg.html

Anyway I just got off the phone with APHA... At the time of the breeding the owner of the stallion and the mare was a Deanne Morehouse, Toppenish, WA 98948-0227... She will have to sign the registration form and the transfer of the foal.... The owner of the mare is automatically the owner of the foal. The stallion breeding report is on file and the fee for the service for an APHA member is $500.

IF the owner of this 9 year old mare has the forms signed by Deanna Morehouse in the three places and they will send it to APHA with the $500 and current membership fees if they are not current members there should be no issue getting papers on this mare. HOWEVER if they do not have the form signed by Deanna Morehouse and she cannot be located the mare will not have papers.
