A horse with only a yr off forgot steering? I realize its her saying that not you but that would make me chuckle a little...lol 6 months of training the horse shoulda been pretty darn decent!
lol, yeah thats what I thought. The horse is 11, so shouldnt it at least know how to steer? That seems pretty basic. I'll have to show you guys the vid when I get it...who knows when she will get around to doing it though. Thanks!

Very pretty boy. I noticed two things from his ad. His temperament is listed as a "5" and he is out of Storm Cat. IME, Storm Cat babies can be.....challenging. I don't know anything about your riding experience, so may not be an issue for you. If he is like the other babies I've ridden, he will be smart, sensitive and will need to be "ridden", if you know what I mean. Good Luck!

WAIT! WAIT! WAIT!

I must be really tired. I realized as I hit submit that I wrote "out of Storm Cat"...... They have his dam listed as Storm Cat. The only Storm Cat I know is a stallion. So scratch what I said. I have no idea about a mare named Storm Cat.

Mistake???? I'm so confused!

Yeah I was confused about that too...it must not be THE Storm Cat we all know. So Im not sure about that one. Im guessing its not a mistake, but I'll make sure and ask just in case. Im hoping she will make a vid soon. His lack of training at his age kinda worries me. Seems like he should know more, or should have retained more than she is saying. Guess we'll find out!

I bought my filly sigh unseen. I sent the a deposit to the seller, then a week later they delivered her (they are 300 miles away) and I gave them the balance.

And I bought my mare after seeing her once. The were 2 hours from us, and they brought her to us to ride her. We told them we would give them $50 or $100(can't remember) if we didn't buy her for gas money, but we made an offer and bought her!

Most sellers will do a trail, so I'd ask about that.

Neither had a vet check, actually none of our horses we have now have had a vet check, but it's always a good idea.

Well my concern is that the horse has many issues.... He is 11 years old and has ZERO experience in anything from what I am reading in the ad. So she played polocross on him once... bet that was right after she got him back from training... why has he not been ridden in six months?

There are a lot of flags in this to me. I would have the trainer call and talk to these people about the horse. I would want more photos and a video. I honestly cannot see how they can say he would be anything with jumping if they have never jumped him. Sorry that just bugs me. If they had loped him over crossed rails or something I could see the comment but it sounds to me like they are painting a pretty thick coat of smoke and mirrors... All about potential and nothing about reality.

I would want to know exactly why he is a 5. Why he has not been ridden more and if he is a cribber, wind ******, kicker, etc.

ETA: From what I can tell both Storm Cat and Colonel Stevens are stallions... so there is another issue. The fact that the owner does not think enough of the horse to fill in the pedigree is always a clue to me that the owner does not think much of the horse... Horses that have lots of complete information are IMHO worth bragging about... Apparently the owner has nothing to brag about. Also the unknown on the DOB of a registered horse? Does she even have the papers on him?

ETAA: Not sure if this is the same horse or not... but the track is in Washington and so is the seller...

HHF - not knowing the birthdate is really not that uncommon for OTTB. Many trainers don't release the papers with their horses when they retire them to keep them from being raced again. If he's been raced he'll be tatooed, so it will be easy to obtain info on him. I can't find any reference to a mare named Storm Cat so I'm guessing that either the seller entered the data incorrectly in the ad, or they really know nothing about their horse. After reading the ad again, I'm really wondering if this is not a case of an inexperienced horse person buying an OTTB and then realizing they have bitten off more than they can chew? Would explain a lot. But....we can assume and guess all day - the OP will have to determine what the real scoop is. Gosh - we are a suspicious bunch, aren't we?

I do like the look of him. Could be all he needs is the right person to bring him along.

I want to ride him for myself and see where he is really at. She said she will make a new video soon, so I can kinda see where he is at.
I got this far then quit reading. Unless you are a rather experienced person then definately pass.

A couple of things don't add up to me. She has played polocross on him but he needs help steering and bending? Those are pretty important things in polocross. If you don't know what polocross is just think polo for now

To me it sounds like he is a green ottb and that is very pricey for that type of horse.

With that horse, I'd ask for a week-long trial, and a vet check too, before making the commitment to buy him if I liked him then and there.

That's a pretty high-pressure situation, and you really may not like him, but just want to make the decision, or the horse could be drugged, whatever...a trial is much better.

Unless they wanted to bring the price down by 3/4's I wouldn't even bother with a trial. To me he is so overpriced he isn't even worth the trial.
