You shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, just as you shouldn't judge a horse by it's looks. =) There are many other things to consider and little things you need to look for. Like other members have said, the tempermant is very important b/c that will help you figure out how well you two will get along. Health is also extremely important and I would have a vet of your choice come along with you and give the horse an exam. You should have the vet see how sound the horse is too and confirm the age as well. Also, a test drive is a must...you need to get a feel of his movements and see how well he responds to commands (this is if he's trained enough to be ridden and how experienced of a rider you are...if he's greenbroke then you must be very very careful) I would just spend some quality time with him and acquaint yourself with him. If you want to be able to start doing things with this horse as soon as you write the check for him then make sure he's exactly what you want...but if you are willing and have the time to work with a not so perfect horse, then just consider what problems he has and if you are knowledgeable enough to deal with them. Good luck...I hope he is what you are looking for!

Not with a Vet yet. But I plan on doing that. My trainer did come with me the second time I went to look at him.

Thumbs up

Looks like you have got everything covered.
I found a link; I don't want to offend you, as it it a little bit "beginner", but it is a nice reference.

Hopefully everything will work out!

Horse care link etc
