Bulky helmets? Have you had this problem?

I was at the tack store today and was just trying on helmets for fun (velvet ones, in case I ever get into showing) and every one I tried on made me look like I have this HUGE head! I mean, I know they're bulky for safety, which is a good thing, but are there any that are safe and yet lighter and sort of...fit your head more? I mean, all the pictures of random people in shows or whatever have helmets that are somewhat flattering (for helmets, anyway).
Has anyone had this problem, and is there a helmet that you'd recommend? One that doesn't cost more than $100?

BTW if I get a new one it would be velvet or a GPA-type one...but not the GPA price, LOL...

Is there a website with this helmet? Did you get it from a catalogue?
Sounds like it might be a good one!

I just have a cheaper Troxel that I got from Stateline (on sale for $24.99). It's not too bulky and it serves it's perpose. It's comfortable..except when I have the darn walkie talkie taped to it during my lessons -.-' now THAT thing makes it heavy and lopsided . . .

I know how you feel. I desperately want a non-ASTM hunt cap, but I can't wear them at A shows anymore because of all of the new safety rules.

Try the knock-off Hampton Helmet in Dover called the Windsor. It looks identical to the CO, but cheaper. They have a slimer profile so they don't make you bubble headed.

hehehe... that's when it pays to no longer be jr ex. and not show o/f *lol* I love my International hunt cap... it's (obviously) a non-ASTM cap, but it's so lightweight and REALLY comfortable... no dog-gone straps to annoy you *lol* I also have a Lexington ASTM approved helmet and it gives me that nice egg-head look... I've had it for like 6 years, but I just hang onto it now just in case I go somewhere that I need one For schooling I have an International ASTM approved helmet - it's really comfortable and lightweight, but it's not velvet (it's just blue plastic or whatever ) I usually only wear it when I'm jumping or on a horse that is young or I don't trust.

If something like the Windsor interests you, they do carry it in 7 1/8. If you want something more like the GPA style, you may have to spend more than $100 - International makes a knock-off of them. Good luck helmet searching
