It doesn't matter what you have or haven't said in other threads - this thread is what the OP is reading I too have no idea what you meant or didn't mean by "collection".

And, it's apparent, by the very nature of the question asked in the OP, that the OP doesn't know what you mean either. No offense to the OP! But anyone who knows those sort of things doesn't have to ask "how do I guild a topline". It's all part of the learning process

Sure, but if you don't do the exercises *correctly* then are worse than just doing nothing.

That is what learning to ride correctly is all about - learning how to do the exercises correctly so that the horse moves properly so that the correct muscles (ie a topline) are developed and the wrong muscles are not developed.

Well said JBandRio - exaclty.

The horse only knows as much as his/her rider. The horse reflects what the rider is doing in the saddle. The horse relies on their rider to know how to ask the questions accordingly, for them to answer properly.

Functional Riding is so very important.

Fair enough and you're right - people generally don't ask how to build topline if they know what collection is. I do like to give the benefit of the doubt sometimes though. Wouldn't be the first person to know the principle of collection but not know it's applications, afterall. How many people can point out a sickle hock but not know how it affects the horse overall?

I figure if someone was brave enough to ask a question in the first place, if they don't understand the terms used to describe the answer they'll be brave enough to ask for more information as well.

Fair enough back to you But, I'll counter again - there is "collection" as in "not strung out", and there is "collection" as in a Dressage piaffe. And, if the person knows the principles of collection but not the application, then saying "get her working in a collected frame" could cause the reader to skip all the basic steps of getting a horse properly collected
