Building muscle.

Hi, i was just wondering if you guys could give me some tips / excercises to help me get some more muscle on to my horse.
Just any general muscle building excercises would be great!

where do you want to build???

Transitions, backing, trotting up and down hills

For mine, in the butt....
Roll backs, hard stops, roll backs galore

built my horse up and we are rebuilding now and begin that work this week again....

also, pulling tires, logs, etc help build up as well. especially the shoulder/chest area.

I mostly just want him to build some general muscle all over.
He doesn't really need any more neck muscles, i have been working on his hind quarters a bit, and it wouldnt hurt to get him some more shoulder/chest muscle, also some back muscle would probaly do him some good too.

There is nothing like hill work. Lots of hill work, 3x a week, walking and trotting up hills and he'll be ripped in a month.

If you want him to develop a stronger topline, consider trot poles to help him develop self carriage, first start in a straight line and then you can start using them on a diagnol, and on a circle. Make sure you are riding him from back to front, encouraging a swinging, relaxed trot where the horse stretches over his whole back and neck and reaches well underneath himself.

I'm curious...how does feeding from the floor "help" build muscle?

I can see it helping lengthen some of the tight muscles along the topline, getting a horse who doesn't usually drop their head down, to drop it...

But "building" muscles?

I'm trying to picture it and having issues...can you clarify it a bit more??

All I know is that feeding in the manger raised can cause under neck muscle, and nasty too.
