Building A Rolltop?!?!?! Help!!!!

ok, so I talked to my isntructor and she's going to help me make a rolltop, liverpool and some other fun jumps for summer. I'm getting fake turf for the roll top and she's getting some wood ...but how in the heck do you make it? I have no idea how to end up with the rounded front part. Please help! lol.

Hmm, I have no idea... but... how bout you get a big thin piece of wood, like a sheet of wood and also two thick rectangular (same size) pieces of wood. You should nail the big pieces of wood to make a 90 degree angle, like this...

][ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [

Then make two sides for it that look like a quarter of a circle, like this...

]....
].........
]............
]..............
] ..............
]] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] (the dots were supposed to form a curve )

You would nail those to each side of the thing... then the thin sheet of wood should lay over the curve and nail it to the top and bottom and along the sides. Of course, it will probably break when you bend it like that.... which i have no idea how to make it not do that. I learned though that if you soak wood in water, it becomes more flexible. It works with little strips of wood for basket making , I'm not sure if it would work for this big piece of wood... maybe ask your dad of someone who knows about wood.

And then of course super glue that green stuff all over it

What Gena's saying is you'd make like, two quarter circles and nail them together to make the rounded top.

yeah. I get that, but what do you do to connect them in the middle and keep it rounded?

Hey, maybe just put skinny boards connecting each side, then lay the turf-ish stuff over! It would hold its shape and be much easier than bending wood! lol

Maybe ask a builder? Not actually pay for him to build it but send him a picture and ask him how you would?

I'm so lucky....the farm guy is a really good professional builderlol

If you really want to make it "rolled" and not just angled, then take a piece of plywood and a circular saw. Set the circular saw to at most 1/2 the depth of the plywood (helps to use thicker plywood). For the width of the plywood, make "cuts" along it about every 1" or so, maybe every 1/2". This will give the plywood the ability to bend without breaking. Use the same size plywood to make your curved ends and a middle. Then tack on the astroturf
