Bug spray

Does anyone know if it is okay to use human bug spray on horses?

i have this bug spray that has a really high amount of deet in it and it works so well on me! i am going out on a big trail ride in a couple of days and the ticks are so bad for us right now.

i know there are those sprays that come in fly spray type bottles for horses that say they keep ticks off, but i have tried alot of them and none seem to work for me.

the only active ingredient in the bug spray is deet, by the way, and the inactive ingredients arent listed.

thanks!

Everything I've ever read about DEET and horses is BAD

So NO, do not spray your horse with DEET products.

Pyranha has always worked well for me. Both on me and my horses. It is a horse fly spray

Deet is NOT to be used on ANY animals, including horses. Some animals are very sensitive to the product, and it can cause some serious side effects. When applied to the skin, Deet can be absorbed, or ingested by horses.

It becomes very toxic to the brain and nervous system, and can cause tremors, weakness, paralysis, emotional / behavior changes, seizures, and death on rare occasions.

If you're lucky, all your horse will suffer is a skin rash or blisters.

In my opinion...the hassle is just NOT worth it. Try a good wipe-on/rub-on fly spray, and feed apple cider vinegar along with your horse's feed. They sweat the vinegar out and it becomes a natural fly spray

Yea know what is excellent for humans and animals is Avons Skin so Soft. Wipe the face with it on and about the stomach, legs, etc. It keeps bugs off trust me it does . I buy big bottles when on sale for ten bucks last a long time, takes a tad bit more time to wipe than spray but Gosh it works, u can get small spray bottles and put it in also.
