Buddy a Cavalry horse? **pic overload!!**

Who whudda thunk it?!

Nope, you're not seeing things. Right there, my pampered eventer thoroughbred has been transformed into a gun totin cavalry machine!

As some of you know, I do Civil War Reenacting, and last weekend was the reenactment of the Battle of Socorro in New Mexico. So me and Katie (LuckyDragon) went down together to partake, I decided what the heck, might as well take Buddy along, let him hang out, see the sights, smell the smells, just watch.

Boy oh boy did he ever surprise me! He did NOT care at all about the gunfire, the battle, the people, the excitement, the scarry tents (which I remember Pie would never go near), ladies in hoop skirts, he did not care! So, as a result, he got to partake in the battle He even did a lancer charge and was a trooper about it all!

I think I got me a super cav horse in the making!

Okay... I said pictures in the title, so here we go!

Meet my alter ego... "Emmit" We where waiting to do the lancer charge (which was very cool by the way)

Here is Katie (LuckyDragon)

And look, this cannon was oh, 40 yards or so away from us when it went off, Buddy didn't care, he just stood there resting a hind leg and barely even twitched when it went off! And that's not exactly a small sound!

After the battle we set up a Cavalry course, which consists of rings you have to spear with the lance, then balloons that you shoot with a pistol, and lastly potatoes on spring boards that you have to slice with a saber. I took Buddy through it, and for his first time he was a super star!

And after a long day of warfare, time for a nap in the sun

Oh yeah... and Buddy has a new nickname now! When I pulled him off the trailer and the guys saw his clip job they wanted to know if I had a "Poodle Pony" Needless to say... the name has rather stuck

I have a couple of friends that do Civil War Reenactments...maybe someday I'll be able to borrow a horse for one

That looks like great fun. I was noticing the clip job myself. Is that a special kind of clip for eventers?

LOL That is SO cool!!!! I noticed Buddy was clipped too, probably the only horse there that was hey? LOL!

Seriously, that is SO neat! I wish they had stuff like that around here. Buddy is such a trooper!

It reminds me of that new Corb Lund song that's out..."I wanna be in the cavalry, send me off to war, I want a good steed under me like my forefathers before...." LOL!!!

That looks like it was so much fun! I think Buddy was saying he didn't want to be stuck tied up all day, he'd rather participate! I'm glad he did so good, you must be proud of him.

Lol, Robin, it's just your average ol' trace clip, nothing really special about it, just not very historically correct

Yeah, they guys tease me about the fact I clip my horse, they like to call it racing stripes!! LOL

I had people coming up to me after the battles asking me "What kind of horse is that? He has the oddest markings!"

He did great!! Now Dragon needs to take lessons from Buddy in going slow through the Cav course! All he wants to do is be the fastest, and I can't do anything that fast. I'm so proud of Buddy! Can't wait til Glorieta now!!!
