Another good day! I am hoping that this is a positive trend... More of the same warm up, and then similar canter work. We were able to make it around the ring twice with no bucking... BIG rewards for that... I think we are on the way to establishing a good relationship, as he is already relaxing much more for me...

Of course, now I am going out of town for a week to train my other passion... Border Collies! Hopefully this will not result in any steps back...

I think you will be surprised. A horse learns, physically, by the formation of neuropathways. Those don't develop overnight, which is why you can think you have a trained cue, but "suddenly" the horse decides to try something different. But even when the training process isn't active, as in when you given them a few days/weeks/months off, that pathway is still being built. So, when you come back to whatever it was, it's not uncommon for the horse to be even better at it than before, even though no work has been done on it
