I was just talking with Belle4 about that same thing. I always brush my horse's tail. I have decided I will just spray baby oil on it after I have picked out the shavings. No brushing allowed! I really want to try it and see if it works. At this point, anything, even a remotely thicker tail will be better for me, and my horse!

Maybe if you hide it in a tail bag... one that blends with your horse's color. |

Im like that too! I brush autumns tail all the time. First i put detangler on it, then comb through it with my fingers so there no knots, then a WIDE tooth comb, like from the drugstore. Then a regular brush lol.... I dont think that breaks hairs to easily.. but i might just be convincing myself again :/

I have to brush my horses tail atleast once a week or it gets terrible. I spray it first with conditioner then take tiny little sections and work from the bottom up, when I'm done with that section, I tie it in a little tail knot and move onto the next. It takes a while, but it doesnt break many hairs and leaves the tail nice for a while.

Hmm, I've seen a lot of people here that recommend not brushing a tail....that constant brushing causes the hair to break and it will be thinner, shorter, etc than you want. I am in compete disagreement with this statement. Get your horse's tail in good condition....which starts from the inside-out. Good food, good health, etc. It is a fact that if you groom your horse every day that you will cause the oils in the coat (and mane/tail) to come out and you will have a nice, shiny horse. I also use a detangler on my mare....start from the bottom and work my way up. Since I bursh out her mane and tail every day....there are very few tangles and very few hairs come out on the brush. It has been my experience with many horses....follow the above advice and you will end up with long and thick manes and tails.....except there are some breeds that generally don't have thick and long tails....
