Can Brood mare ever become good riding horses?

Yes! My mare was a broomare up until she was 9 (she had about 3 foals). She didn't have a lot of muscle or training at the beginning, but know she is doing amazing!

It can take work to get them from being out in a pasture with a abby to working in the arena, but it is most defintly possible!

Certainly. It just takes time and someone who know's what they're doing. If they've been living the lush life it can be hard to establish a work ethic, and since they're full grown they can really pitch a fit- which is why it's best left to professionals.

My curly mare, Ebony was a broodmare her entire life- sold in June to a home that tried to use her as a trail horse without any real training and got her into a mess- I'm working with her with a professional now and she's coming along great. She's 18 and training is moving along slower with her, but my trainer says she's got as much or more potential as a show horse than my gelding 9who's an awesome show horse).

Definitely. I'm working with one of my mares who had been basically a broodmare and halter horse the first 12 years of her life. She's doing very well, and she should make a lovely walk/trot horse for a beginner.

Most definately. There's certainly cases where broodmares are JUST broodmares never have and never will be started under saddle...and there's others that are good mom's and can be ridden....and really can and do accel under saddle.

Yes for sure.....I have broke one at 9 and my old coach broke one at 18.....the 18 yr old proved to be an amazing lil show horse for the kid who owned her (bought her unbroke then had the training put on).
