That's really cool! I wonder if you do need a brindle X brindle to throw one?

My mare has some "striping" on her hip...about a foot long...but it really just looks like some weird birthmark/odd pigmentation. I'm going to clip her again, and then I'll take pics

I Don't Think So. If I Remember Right, The Owner Of The Brindle Horse Site Had A Small Brindle-Based Breeding Program For A While. I Know At Least One Of Her Mares Had a Brindle Foal By An Normally-Marked Quarter Horse Stallion. And I Think One Of Her Studs That Had Brindling Passed In One To A Foal From A Non-Brindle Mare.

Possibly a "bloody" mark? Gray arabs often have a "bloody shoulder", but I believe the mark can appear on the back end as well.

I wonder if it's possible that the "bloody" mark is related to brindle?

You'd think it would, because isn't it pretty much just more of the same marking?

Queen's mark is only on her skin: her hair doesn't grow out a different color.

I Don't Think So. The Bloody Shoulder Is Only Seen On Grays As Far As I Know And Seems To Basically Be An Unusual Pattern For Graying Where "Flea-Bites" Cluster To Form Those Markings. They Are Not On The Skin And Are Not Present At Birth, While Most Brindles Are Evident At Birth I Believe. Not Sure If Brindle Goes To The Skin Or Not Though, Like Paints Have Pink Skin Under White Markings And Dark Skin Under Their Color Patches. I Don't Believe Anyone Has Shaved A Brindle To Find Out .

I'll fluff up Faux Finish's coat today and see if the brindle mark does goes right to skin level. Dont want to shave her in this weather to see for sure!

Its really hard to see now with her fluffy winter coat. Im hoping that come springtime, it has REALLY spread and grown!

Talk about an old thread coming back. Anyway I thought I would add to it for anyone looking to buy a brindle type horse, I ran across this, well shot, he was for sale, he got sold. I looked at a month or so ago. Oh well, here is a pic of him anyway.
