Do you mean the area where the crown of the bridle or halter goes? I keep mine trimmed, just to keep the mane out of the way and to prevent it from getting tangled in the buckles. Or do you mean the trails in a park? We have a couple of those too

I use electric clippers. I don't really measure...I just measure about 2 fingers from the start of the forelock. (You don't want to clip to close to the base of the forelock because you'll loose a lot if it You don't want the bridle path to be too thick- just clip enough for the leather to fit through it, like a little pathway. Sorry I can't explain it really well-

I'd show you a pic but mine don't have one at the moment as I need some new clippers. Most people shave it. From their poll down a few inches. (Some people like them longer and some shorter) You can use sissors too. Its main purpose is to clear a section for the bridle or halter to sit. You want it as close as possible because it looks funny sticking up. Im sure someone on here has a good pic for you. Ok Im editing this and adding this pic. NOt my horse but does show a bridle path Sorry about my crooked circle around it. Last edited by Paints4me; 01-11-2005 at 02:15 PM. Reason: add pic |

The reccomended length is however far back your horse's ear bends back. THAT IS THE RECOMENDED LENGTH.

As others have said it's just a little area of mane that is clipped away to allow and area for the halter/bridle to lay. You can use scissors, but electic clippers get a closer cut. After it's clipped I also go back over the area with a disposable razor to get a really close shave, the hair grows back much slower after doing this a few times. Some people do them the length of the ear, but I tend to only do mine about 1/2 an ear length Unclipped bridle path ![]() Clip towards the ears ![]() Then away from the ears ![]() clipped bridle path ![]() razor clipped path ![]() finished bridle path |
